A quiet beach frequented by Ticos and campers a few years ago, Playa Herradura was an undiscovered paradise located in Pacific coast of Costa Rica, about five minutes west of Jaco downtown.
Black sand beach with green waters, palm tree lined shoreline, wild birds and a perfect bahia shape creates a special environment for unforgettable vacation destiny. In the last few years this beach become a much traveled vacation destination.
The beach has no construction on so things look basically like they have for years, except for the development of Los Suenos at the west of Playa Herradura.
However, with its tranquil waters, Playa Herradura still draws in a number of locals who want a quiet getaway.
Even with its many touristy projects Playa Herradura still does not attract as many visitors as Jaco does, making it a great place to slip away. From Playa Herradura you can also head up north to the lovely Refugio Punta Leona, or down south to the wonderful Playa Hermosa.
Another important thing to mention is that Herradura Bay in Costa Rica has spectacular fishing scenarios. Blue, black and striped Marlin, sailfish, mahi -mahi tuna, and wahoo can be fished. Inshore and offshore fishing charters can be found at Los Suenos any time. If you prefer the excitement of inshore fishing there are roosterfish, jack crevalle, cubera snapper, Spanish mackerel, grouper and many other species of fish that make their homes in Playa Herradura rocks and reefs.
